The Basic Rules of Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the easiest card games in the casino. If you are looking for a table game that does not require a lot of imagination and skill, baccarat is the game for you. If you are new to the games of the casino, it might help to start with something much simpler and uncomplicated. As a matter of fact most of the work lies on the dealer. The only things you need to do it decide, decide and decide.

Baccarat originated in Italy during the later stages of the 1400's and was later introduced in France where it gained popularity. The rules of the game are simple: you need to decide where to place your bets. The two main choices are the 'Player' and 'Banker'. The term 'player' does not refer to the people playing baccarat, while 'banker' is not the dealer or croupier of the table. These are just the betting options placed on the table where game cards are accordingly designated to each. Now, if you believe any of those two will win the game, you may place your bets on any of them. However, if in your instincts are telling you otherwise you place your bets on a third option which is the 'Tie', that means you think a tie will occur between the options player and banker.

The game starts when the dealer deals two cards on the player's and the banker' hands. It is possible to take a third card if the player wishes so. The winning hand must contain cards with a total point as close to nine as possible. If in blackjack twenty-one is the magic number, in baccarat nine is. So the hand, player or banker, whose cards total to nine or closest to nine, wins. It is that simple.

The value of the cards in baccarat is different from blackjack as well. If in blackjack you crave for tens and face cards, in baccarat you will not. You want to avoid tens and face cards because they do not have any value at all. Their value is zero. An ace is one. The rest of the cards retain their face value. When the total of the two cards go over nine, you have to deduct ten from it or just take the first digit. For example if the banker's cards are seven and eight which equals fifteen, you have to drop the one so you get five.
